Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic Mission Station is located in the little village of Juan Tomas.  Juan Tomas is a very needy village located a short distance from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. It is home to over 5,000 people who are attempting to scratch out a living amidst the hopelessness of high unemployment and a  land difficult to farm.

The construction of this mission station was provided by the hard work of many groups from various Christian schools and churches.  The mission has been blessed with the selfless hard work of young people as well as highly skilled adults (electricians, carpenters, cement masons and metal construction) from the United States and Canada.

Paul and Linda McMillan (pictured right) have been dedicated missionaries in the Dominican Republic since 1987 and they have been associated with Potter's Wheel Division of Missions since 1975.  Paul  is the Field Director for Centro Biblico De Juan Tomas.

You can contact the Field Director in the following ways:  Mailing Address:  P.O. Box 025577  #A0200, Miami, FL 33102-5577 or by email alpinita@hotmail.com

MINISTRIES AT JUAN TOMAS

Fountain Of Life School:   The school has had a steady growth over the past few years.  In the fall of 2009 it had close to 400 students.  The school has classes for K-12 as well as special English classes which are reaching an additional 50+ students.  In the past few of years, an administration building and two new high school buildings and a school auditorium have been built.

Each year many students make professions of faith in Jesus Christ.  One of the Dominican teachers has stepped up and is now mentoring this group of new believers in times other than school hours.   The excitement on the faces of the students is very evident as they sing gospel songs and learn Bible verses along with their other studies.   2008 saw the first 14 graduates form Fountain Of Life School.  The 2010 class has is the largest class yet with 24 expected to graduate.

Paul McMillan writes, "Probably one of the greatest happenings in the history of the Fountain of Life School occurred January 27, 2010.  Carmen Luisa, our district representative, came out of a meeting to hand me the recognition document, she gave me a warm Dominican hug and said, 'I'm so glad for you and your school, you are now recognized by the Secretary of Education'."

Sponsorship of students at this school is made possible by a program from "Partners in Christ" - www.partnersnchrist.org.   For more information contact Carl Key at 419-289-2723 or Nancy Truex at 419-526-3417.

Alpinta Dairy Farm:   Linda McMillan has successfully demonstrated to the Dominican Republic government the success of raising and maintaining a dairy goat heard.  The success of this ministry area has also provided goats to various other locations in the Dominican Republic and allowed the farm to ship over 100 goats to another country to start a dairy farm there.  The farm has found a ready market for goat products in the local markets.  These products range from milk to cheese, ice cream, yogurt and meat.

Centro Biblico Camp:   The mission station has a 50 bed camp available on site for groups coming from the states to work at the mission.  The facilities are also rented out from time to time for church groups to hold retreats.

Juan Tomas Bible Church:  The background of the people of Juan Tomas is that of direct descendants of slaves brought to the Dominican Republic and Haiti from Africa.  The older adults are steeped in traditions and superstitions that trace their roots to spirit worship.  The majority of the church is made up of people under 30 years of age.  They are growing and trust that in the near future to be able to have their own qualified elders and deacons.

Out Of Country — Out Of Culture”  Mission Trips:   Partners in Christ  have been very helpful in bringing over 100 different groups from Christian Schools and churches to aid in short term mission projects. For further information contact Carl Key or visit the Partners in Christ web site.
